The Art Museum of the river-SEA, under the management of the Institute Odeon, features The infinite poem of Wlademir Dias-Pino, that brings to the attention of the public the work of one of the most significant artists of Brazil. Curated by Evandro Salles, the show brings together more than 800 pieces between books, posters, objects, photographs, drawings, videos and installations to tell the story of almost 90 years of the artist's life – its various foci of work, the political action in the founding of the University of the jungle (Today Federal University of Mato Grosso) and the intense activity as a theorist of design and visual programmer.
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Days-Pin migrates as a child to the Mato Grosso and returns to Rio de Janeiro to become one of the pioneers of concrete poetry and a relevant reference to the precepts neoconcretos. The Gothic style, going on to understand that his interest is less by direction or by the final form of poetry, but mainly by ways of structuring the poem – its materiality to the participatory nature of the player-, What stimulates to create the poem/process (1967-1972). In addition to the two movements that dominated the Rio-São Paulo in the 50 and 60, Dias-Pino, along with Álvaro de Sá and other artists of Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco, Minas Gerais and Mato Grosso, develops this cutting-edge method that rethinks the poem beyond its dimension of linguistic sign, Turning the book or any other medium in poems, manipulate symbolic, structurally and physically by the reader.
The exhibition takes as central axis four works: The day of the city, Ave, Solida and Numeric. In the first, the artist connects the lines to lines, Describes points of Cuiabá – GEODESIC Centre of South America – and form a large map, already bringing to art issues related to cartography. In the second, transparent and loose words pages offer several possibilities of readings, While the third, Solida, appropriates the ambiguity between words loneliness and solid to invite the reader to give body to the poem through the manipulation of the pages of the book. The latter is already a joke that associates words to numbers, creating poetry from arithmetic formulations, in a criticism of the whole idea of inspiration of the artist.
At the exhibition, to enhance the sensory experience of the work, such books-poems were turned into large magnetic facilities, in which the elements will be constructed and rearranged by the visitor. Another highlight is the Brazilian Visual Encyclopedia, in which the artist has been working for the past 20 years. Composed of 1001 volumes, the work intends to present, through the resulting allegorical mount boards of several cultural references, the history of the construction of the image in the world.
The work of Wlademir Dias-Pino, his biography, its main dialogue, the landmarks of his career, your references and your main proposals will be gathered and articulated, in the exhibition, in complete chronology has already elaborated on the artist. Richly illustrated, and also the documents relating to each item on this timeline, the show offers a unique opportunity to contextualize the work of Days-pin and realize, in perspective, their crucial importance for the national and international panorama of art, the poetry and visual programming.
