“Matters to Affection: the construction of the meaning of jewelry“, with Profª. Dr. Ana Steps.
What is the significance of jewelry in Brazil today and how it was built? How is the relationship we have with the jewels? Drawing Prize, creation, choice, acquisition, use, donation, look, care and disposal of jewelry: all these interactions, and other more that can be, They are permeated by the meaning of jewelry. Always we appropriate objects that are arranged on the body, to make known values, wishes, fears and stories as well as the adorning. Perhaps for this ancestral familiarity, We do not have the worry of finding an explanation of its importance in our lives. Their meanings are not as obvious as we think. The lecture is an invitation to reflect on it.
Matters to Affection: the construction of the meaning of jewelry is based on the doctoral thesis of the same name. In this research we tried to capture the importance of jewelry as a cultural object today and present some characteristics that lead to this meaning in the context of jewelry in Brazil, from a kaleidoscope of small fragments, small treasures revealed by those who use, acquires, creates, execute, markets, collects, and exposes critical jewelry.
Speaker:
Ana Steps jeweler's bench. He began his studies of jewelery and history of jewelry in 1987. In his atelier, is dedicated to the creation, renovation and restoration of jewelry. It is a doctoral student in Education, Art and History of Culture at Mackenzie, with a thesis on the history of jewelry - and Master in Social Memory and Document UNIRIO, with Silences memory dissertation and Speeches: practices and social representations of reading. She is the author of books: The jewels of Reny Golcman, Jewelry in Bahia the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and blog Bijoux Bliss - a look into the world of jewelery, jewelry and accessories.
