Carmela Gross's first stamp was a drawing of a fist on the table, no IV Salon of Modern Art of the Federal District, in Brasília, in the year 1968. In 1978, Carmela presented at the Graphic Arts Cabinet, in São Paulo, other Stamps, a set of 80 works, made of repeated and systematically organized stamps on the paper, distributed throughout the gallery space.

These years of plastic and conceptual study resulted in a large archive with more than 300 documents, which is now presented at the Institute of Contemporary Art – IAC.

Stamps deals with drawing decomposed into lines, stains, brush strokes and scribbles. Throughout the artist's research process, repetition suggests a search for drawing synthesis, by the rationality of the expressive gesture.

The exhibition also features some copies of the original series., from 1978.

the act of stamping, the punched drawing on a sheet of paper, it also says about your time. The set of operations, that involve from the conception of the work, going through the production process, until the disposition in the exhibition place, emphasizes the dialectical relationship between the work and the space, between the work and the public/passerby. The works seek to engender new artistic perceptions that assert a critical action and thought and that bring to light the semantic load of the place, be it a public space, an institution or the moment of an exhibition. carmelagross.com/cv
