The Art Museum of the river-SEA, under the management of the Institute Odeon, closes the exhibition successful season "Samba Rio: resistance and reinvention "on Sunday, 28 April, exactly one year after opening. The closing event will be packed by a special program, which includes presentation of Mangueira, group show Parrot Known, book launch in honor of Martinho da Vila and Bezerra da Silva and Slam that exalt these two classic masters.
Voted one of the best exhibition 2018 the magazine Bravo!, the show received an audience of about 200 thousand people, among them the distinguished presence of artists such as Zeca Pagodinho, Paulinho da Viola, Marisa Monte, Teresa Cristina, Martinho da Vila, among others. The exhibition was also staged a series of museum activities, as creation workshops, gallery talks, Meet editions of the SEA and SEA in Pounds.
Curated by Nei Lopes, Clarissa Diniz, Evandro Salles and Marcelo Campos, “The Rio Samba” tells the social history of samba through 800 items, between works of art, documents, objects and garments. They are on display works of artists such as Candido Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Heitor dos Prazeres, Guignard, Ivan Morais, Pierre Verger and Nascimento; Photo Marcel Gautherot, Walter company name, Evandro Teixeira, Bruno Veiga and Wilton Montenegro; prints Debret and Lasar Segall; parangolés Hélio Oiticica, and an installation Carlos Vergara, developed with fantasies remains. The porcelain dish touched by João da Bahia and costume design and original jewelry Carmen Miranda are some of the oddities on display.
Five works commissioned by SEA, created specially for "Samba Rio" are also part of the show. At the invitation of the curators, artists Ernesto Neto and Leandro Vieira, Carnival Hose, They created an interactive installation, which has a prominent place in the Meeting Room. Jaime Lauriano made an intervention right at the museum entrance, recording in Portuguese stone floor of the pillars the names of African ethnic groups enslaved in Brazil. The walkway that leads visitors to the exhibition hall was filled with lyrics that talk about samba itself and acclimated by a sound piece created by musician Djalma Corrêa, inspired by the heart beats. Gustavo Speridião occupies a wall with work inspired by the geography of the samba in Rio, and John Vargas presents a video installation about the samba dance while the individual and collective body.

– 14h30 – Launch of two books conceived by Faculty – Literary Festival of the Peripheries, in partnership with Funarte. "Strong Account, Alto account "brings 28 tales created from Martin's songs retelling of Vila. Now "90 Years of Malandragem" gathers 25 short stories written based on repertoire Bezerra Da Silva. There will be book signing with authors. Free entrance.
– 15h – Slam do Samba, where public and authors will take turns to perform the most remarkable letters in the history of samba and the public will note for performances. Free entrance.
– 16h – group show Parrot Known.

The Art Museum of the river-SEA
An initiative of Prefeitura do Rio in partnership with Fundação Roberto Marinho, the sea has activities that involve collecting, registration, search, preservation and return of cultural property to the community. Proactive support space education and culture, the museum was born with a school - the School Look -, whose proposal is innovative museological: foster the development of an educational program of reference for actions in Brazil and abroad, combining art and education based on the curatorial program that guides the institution.
The sea is managed by the Odeon, a social organization of culture, selected by the Rio de Janeiro City Hall for public notice. The museum has the Globe Group as maintainer, the Equinor as master sponsor and Rede D'Or St. Louis as a supporter of exhibitions through the Federal Law on Cultural Incentives.
