Neba Gallery, in Barra da Tijuca, hosts an exhibition by the artist from Pernambuco known for his symmetrical photographs and portraits of different cultures
From 24 November to 10 of december, the carioca public will be able to check out some of the photographic art of Yuri Seródio, with an exhibition of photographs from his series “Parallels” and “Portraits”, your first show individual in the city, in the Neba Gallery, in Barra da Tijuca.
The artist from Pernambuco is known for his symmetrical photographs, of large public spaces, who seek the refined aesthetics of architecture, the repetition and organization of spaces, based on renaissance painting – who rigorously and scientifically develop the technique of perspective, as well as the work of great artists, like German photographers Candida Höfer and Andreas Gursky.
About everything, not limiting itself to this theme and also going through photographs and portraits of different cultures, Yuri Seródio started in 2020 a series of photographs focused on the baroque, which is very present in Brazil, especially in churches and secular buildings.
in Ouro Preto, the work “Saint Francis of Assisi Church “Mestre Ataíde” 1774 (Ouro Preto – MG 2021)”, Yuri portrayed one of the most iconographic paintings of this theme, inserted in the work of Mestre Aleijadinho, work presented in this exhibition.
In addition to the Parallel series, that distinguished the artist, the exhibition also brings together works from the Portraits series, made on trips across india, focusing on the Rajasthan region, and in Ethiopia, na tribo Karo, from the Olmo Valley region.
“Take to Rio de Janeiro, for the first time, the mixed exposure to what I intimately call “opposite beauties”, will make me present to the spectator the immersion in a universe of antagonistic beauties between the palatial spaces, full of rich details in the architecture made by man, but contrasted with the natural beauty of human beings and their cultures, in the adornments of simple materials of the daily life to which they are a part”, comments Seródio.
Owner of a receptive and silent look, Yuri Seródio achieves the visual perception of painting in photography. Yuri suspends time and makes the viewer contemplate the unknown and reframe the known. The proposal is to deepen the senses through geometry, creating interfaces between time and space, so that each spectator is transported in front of different scenarios.
Art and life are phenomena that coexist for the artist, one of the reasons why he uses the camera as an instrument, in order to obtain comfortable isolation through the lenses, reflection of your personality, seeing the world with distance and breadth.
Yuri Serodio (1978) was born in Caruaru, Pernambuco, now lives and works in São Paulo. Graduated from the Faculty of Human Sciences in Recife, already in SP studied photography, at school Fullframe, and Art History, at MASP (Museum of Art of São Paulo Assis Chateaubriand).

Before, in 2015, the Gallery opened its first branch, in Barra da Tijuca, where art dealer Sergio Gonçalves had opened the first Contemporary Art Gallery in Barra, in 1996, at a time when the neighborhood was not yet considered ready for a contemporary gallery.
But it was in the same Casashopping that the gallery owner exhibited for the first time in Barra, artists like Angelo de Aquino, Emanoel Araújo, Wesley Duke Lee, Ascânio MMM, Carlos Vergara, Aguilar, Siron Franco, among others.
Today the Gallery is responsible for curating the Artefact Exhibitions in 5 States, in addition to participation in international art fairs in Brazil and abroad, representing several artists and with a bold proposal of always looking to find the perfect work for its clients and collectors.
