“Sewing in colors by Yara Delafiori”
The painting of a woman covered in a colorful patchwork goes far beyond a beautiful portrait, even more when it comes to repeated paintings and with different women, as performed by artist Yara Delafiori in her series entitled “Patchwork and the Female Universe”.
In each painting, a real and naked woman, sensually covered only by a bedspread, is represented from the observation of a photograph. With delicate brushstrokes running along the female skin, and soft tonal nuances, Yara Delafiori gives skillful realism to each of the images. And the vibrant colors of the patchwork quilts make up much of the palette, giving the paintings intense vivacity.
The patchwork, with grace and transparency, expresses another relevant aspect of the works, namely, the poetics in which the viewer will be involved: each patch of the mantle symbolizes one of the experiences of each of the women represented. Experiences such that when they are patched, they give meaning and harmony to the stories lived.
The pieces of the patchwork are confused with emotions, who, on the other hand, fuse with colors: the patchwork itself, composed of countless experiences, nay, by patched small chromatic synchronic planes, becomes, therefore, a beautiful composition! More precisely, the reconsideration of history itself through the transmutation of infinite emotions, who are among terrible pains and wonderful joys, results in an intimate link between art and life!
The strong denunciation of the condition of women appears as a background, who, however, is already lovingly transformed by the artist's gaze on the existing, at least potential, uterine strength inherent in all women.
In each painting, the express artist, in a single scene, the whole story of a woman. And, together, the portraits tell the story of a multitude of women capable of artfully reconstructing their lives.
Anyway, artist Yara Delafiori disputes the current system by suggesting, through the stories of women, a sense of femininity manifested by the creative and creative power attributed to “Female universe”.

INTERVIEW
1- Where did you born? And what is your academic training?
I was born in the city of São Paulo / SP, Brasil.
I am graduated in Art Education with specialization in Plastic Arts.
2- How and when you give your first contact with the Arts?
My first encounter with Art was still in my teens.
It was love at first sight! When you see a small landscape oil canvas in person, at my mom's friend's house.
A small screen, but an impressive painting that took my heart and made me enter the canvas making me belong to that landscape.
3- How did you find this gift?
It gradually appeared. In my adolescence.
A television series showing the passion of painters when carrying out their work, a teacher who took pictures of her paintings to see, was an art teacher.
I gradually discovered this gift, when I saw several paintings in another home of an acquaintance and my mother asked me if I wanted to take painting lessons on canvas.
So my experience started in the year 1989.
But during my childhood and pre-adolescence I did not have good experiences with Art. I was terrified of messing with ink and I was terrified of blank sheets of sketchbook. One day my Art notebook caught fire in the classroom. A job with candles, I don't even remember how this day ended.
4- What are your main influences?
I've always been passionate about the Impressionist movement.
The poetics of seeing nuances and impressions of the real world, an emotional and romantic way of painting. Contrasts of light and shadow, always highlighting the light a lot! Bright, intense light. Painter Pierre Auguste Renoir is what inspired me the most.
A symbolist painter, Gustav Klimt and all its colorful arsenal and its women, the feminine in her works.
And an American painter, Reisha Permulter, a contemporary artist I follow on instagram. Its contrasts of lights and shadows, allied to his impressionist brushstrokes enchant me and his colors.

5- What materials do you use in your works?
Use canvas and oil paints, but I've used different types of materials and supports.
6- What is your creative process itself? What inspires you?
I've been through different moments.
I've been inspired by works by other artists, but lately I get inspired by my own photographs and sometimes in partnerships with photographers.
My inspiration comes from my daily life, of the real and figurative world, of my photographic creations as a reference for my paintings.
For me, creativity comes as a ripple effect, one work interconnects with another, in a very fluent and light way. My creative process sometimes arises from an amount of ideas that arrive little by little and sometimes as insights.
The colorful, lights and shadows, nature mixed with the figurative are these elements that inspire me, allied to the essence of the emotional world, intrinsic and subjective, along with the symbolism of each element in the work.
7- When you started effectively to produce or create your works?
I started in the year 1996, after watching an Art History program. A program from TV Escola, the entire timeline of Art History, in cassette tape formats. I watched it like I was watching a wonderful series. Those contents fascinated me!
Then I realized that the artist is free to create! And that I could create anything I wanted as long as I put all my emotion.
8- Art is an intellectual production exquisite, where emotions are embedded in the context of creation, but in art history, we see that many artists are derived from other, following technical and artistic movements through time, you own any model or influence of any artist? Who would be?
Yes. I received influences from Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Gustav Klimt and Reisha Permulter.
9- What does art mean to you? If you were to summarize in a few words the meaning of Arts in your life…

The Arts for me is synonymous with redemption, overcoming and transcending.
10- What techniques do you use to express their ideas, feelings and perceptions about the world? (Whether it is through painting, sculpture, drawing, collage, photography… or uses several techniques in order to make a mix of different art forms).
I've done a mix of techniques, bonding with different materials, I've used several supports. I'm currently working with canvas painting and studying Digital Arts.
11- Every artist has his mentor, that person whom you mirrored that encouraged and inspired you to follow this career you, going ahead and taking your dreams the other expression levels, who this person is and how it introduced you in the art world?
My inspiration came from external influences. I did have the support and encouragement of my mother to take courses and a friend. But it was an art teacher at school who introduced me to the world of paintings. I see how important teachers are, mainly in discovering vocations.
12- You have another activity beyond art? You teaches classes, lectures etc.?
I am an Art Teacher from the municipal network of the city where I live, Chavantes, interior of the State of São Paulo. I've done volunteer work, teaching painting classes, in asylum and in the school itself.
13- Its main national and international exhibitions.

14- Your plans for the future?
Keep painting and learning more and more, about Art.
Having many artist friends and being able to live off my Art, doing many exhibitions, travels, meeting people and always having new projects.
Create projects with art and philanthropic ideas.
Art for me goes far beyond exhibiting, to show talents, she is transcendental, have to be sublime and be allied with the good of others.
15- In your opinion what is the future of Brazilian art and its artists? (in the general context) and why so many artists are giving preference to show their work in international exhibitions despite high costs?
The art world has already invented and reinvented itself, both Brazilian and foreign.
So many studies to understand a work and great controversies about what is Art or not.
I see today a very large chain of hyper – realism, the need to show the real world as what photography does, the challenge of showing only technique and the fidelity of an image. Maybe it has to do with social networks, often showing only appearances.
Today we also have Hybrid Art a mixture of techniques, the media, the digital world.
I believe that artistic creation is infinite and will always depend on what humanity has in hand, to become Art, from to culture, ideology and materials.
Artists are giving more value I believe, for international exhibitions due to the valorization of Art outside the Country.
