A historical spectacle for the Vocal Brasileirão and the city of Curitiba marks the beginning of October. The Group, which this year celebrates 20 years of existence, conducts presentations on Friday and Saturday (days 2 and 3) bringing together memorable songs and memories. The shows take place at Teatro Guairinha and are also attended by former members of the group. The chosen repertoire was based on the show Duetos, held in 2010, with songs by Lamartine Babo, Chico Buarque, Custódio Mesquita, Tom Jobim, among other renowned MPB names.
Vicente Ribeiro, conductor and artistic director of Vocal, explains that one of the characteristics of Brasileirão's work is the valorization of the song. “Although my academic training is essentially musical, I have a great appreciation for the role that words play in the song. No group, the vocal competence of the singers is put at the service of the music, unlike what is seen in many vocal groups, who often put music at the service of performance”, remembers Vicente.
The Brazilian Vocal, created in 1995 by Marcos Leite, established itself as a vocal reference in the city in the first ten years. “Marcos Leite’s talent and charisma solidified the construction of the work in its early years; from 2002, under the direction of Reginaldo Nascimento, the continuity of Marcos’ work was ensured”, Vincent explains., who has been at the head of the group since 2006.
Currently, the group takes strides establishing visibility in the country. With the current training were performed several shows with national renowned artists like Quarteto em Cy, Free Mouth, Joyce, Samuel & Guarabyra, Ivan Lins, among others. This work also generated the first solo CD recording, in 2008, "Invisible Leash", dedicated to the work of Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo.
For the spectacle of 20 years, This story will be presented at meetings bringing together current members and singers who have already been in the group and who continue their paths in the area. The guests for these nights are some of those who stood out in history and influenced the group's identity.: Ana Cascardo, Márcio Matana, Levi Brandão, Rogéria Holtz, Bruno Mazanek and Cris Lemos.
The Vocal – Maintained by the Curitiba Institute for art and culture (ICAC), agency responsible for managing the music of the Cultural Foundation of Curitiba (FCC), the Vocal Brasileirão is formed by 12 voices, six female and six male, and accompanied by a Quartet of instrumentalists (violão, piano, bass and drums).
