The transcendence of the meeting of two civilizations

Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo – BUT / SP, institution of Department of Culture and Economy of the State of São Paulo Creative, in partnership with Subway | Sao Paulo Metropolitan Company and the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic in Sao Paulo, inaugurates "A People United by Faith”, photographers Victor Siladi and Edwin Rosario with 23 colorful panels displaying the seeds from which a people 'united by faith' sprouted, what is the dominican republic.

An island nation of Hispaniola, to Dominican Republic is part of the Greater Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean region. This island was the first in the New World to be colonized by the Spanish.. The culture of the Dominican Republic has, However, beyond European roots, Africans and Americans but, many Dominicans consider themselves culturally European.

There are differences in terms of social class and education that separate them into different groups and the inequalities between the rich and the poor are great.. However, some of the traits shared by all are the particular way of establishing social relationships, Catholicism with strong folk traditions and popular music. It is a country that allows religious freedom, through its constitution, also guaranteeing tolerance to all religions.

The images that make up “A People United by Faith” exhibit details of the history and evolution of devotional spaces with records that include from the first hermitages or churches, the first mass, the first Christian baptism in the Americas, all part of the evangelizing project of the Catholic Monarchs of Spain. The vestiges of the first representations of the Catholic Church are reflected, within today, in the buildings of the capital Santo Domingo.

The materialization of the sacred, through architecture and liturgical objects recorded, becomes a means to gather and instruct the faithful, promote devotion and the practice of worship. In this sense, Sacred art is a manifestation of encounter and diffusion that speaks for itself.
