Holy Week with intense schedule in Paraty
City hosts religious festivals and cultural activities, scenario that invites ecological tourism
Traditional festivities colonial architecture, Paraty overflows Culture and History. The period of Holy Week, from 31 March to 5 April, is one of the highlights of 23 religious festivals celebrated in the city throughout the year. This is the only time when an important historical heritage is on display to the public: the six Stations of the Cross - set of built altars in the walls of buildings, where sacred pieces of more than are saved 300 years - are open for celebrations.
The program goes beyond religious events. The city offers attractions for all ages, with exposure, film series and eco-tourism options. On Thursday, the bonfire procession transports the audience to past centuries and the last day, Easter Sunday, announces the Divine festival, another traditional celebration of the city.

Cultural events
The 5th edition of the Mostra Tide Full Film, in Ponta Negra Beach, displays Brazilian films, under the theme “Play and Brincantes”. Four will be displayed feature films, 20 Short and 20 animations, Besides a film on 16mm film that will make the audience relive other times.
The exhibition unites film and environmental sustainability. “As citizens, producers and exhibitors, we must preserve this ecological sanctuary and encourage sustainable attitudes of residents and tourists. The film projection equipment, for example, will be powered by solar energy”, says Ronald Almenteiro, producer and show curator. In addition to film screenings, are part of the event SMA workshop – Art Movement Ecology and the 4th Canoe Racing Rascal, which includes the participation of adults and children.

In the House of Culture of Paraty, the exhibition “Paraty of all saints” presents religious works from private collections - rarities coming from churches and traditional city families. Curated by Renata Rosa and production Emanuel Range, frames and oratories will be exposed to the day 18 June in the Noble House Hall. For the historian Paraty Diuner Melo, the show is an important artistic register. “These images and tables show, beyond veneration and devotion, artistic creation of his time”, says. “The immense variety of devotions, some stand, such as Our Lady, under different invocations, St. John, Santo Antonio, St. Peter, St. Michael and St. Sebastian”, reveals.
For lovers of handicrafts, the 9th Meeting of Potters in Paraty meeting more jobs 30 artists in Church Square Santa Rita, that this year brings a new: space “Free Torno” allows the visitor to experience shaping pottery. The public will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops and attend lectures of potters.

Community-based tourism
Paraty also invites the visitor to explore the region in eco-tours and to know Indian villages, quilombos and XX century. The Sustainable Tourism Initiatives Community Based share and protect the natural wealth of the region, in order to enhance the way of life of native Paraty and traditional cultures. Dentro da da Juatinga Ecological Reserve, the Cajaíba the Landing is home to a small fishing village. There, the caiçara Francisco Sobrinho, the Ticote, created the Institute of Permaculture Rascal (IPECA), working to maintain environmentally sustainable village system, socially just and cost-effective. Ticote welcomes groups for cultural experience and ecological. The same happens in Great Cajaíba Beach, where Altamiro, of Portuguese origin, comes reforesting the Atlantic Forest with the help of visitors, that can camp and participate in various experiences in the community.

- 19h30 – Procession of the Meeting (or steps) traveling the Passion Steps. Men leave the Church with the image of Our Lord and women leave the Chapel of Sorrows with the image of Our Lady.
Wednesday, day 1
- 19h30 – Office of the Dark Church, with reading the Psalms and Lamentations of the prophet Isaiah. Vigil Night in sorrow, to delete the 15 chandelier candles (Tenebrário) representing the Apostles and Christ, going off little by little the lights.
Thursday, day 2
- 18h30 22:30 – Show Tide Full Film – Ponta Negra Beach
- 19h30 – Solemn Mass of the Last Supper (Institution of the Eucharist), with Lava Feet. After Communion, translocation of the Blessed Sacrament for Eucharistic Adoration, until midnight. After the blessing of the Blessed, Blaze the procession through the streets of the Historic District.
