Rolé celebrates 10 years with a tour of the Historical Museum of the City this Saturday, 27 August

Initiatives aimed at valuing and preserving Rio's historical and cultural heritage, the project hang out and the Historical Museum of the City of Rio de Janeiro come together to offer the carioca public a leisurely morning next Saturday, 27 August. On this date, to 10h, the cultural project, completing a decade in 2022, promotes a free guided tour of the headquarters and gardens of the Historical Museum of the City of Rio de Janeiro, located in City Park, in Gávea. With a wide collection of works that tell the rich history of the city and its cultural transformations, Economic and social, the charming museum is the ideal space for a special anniversary celebration in honor of Rolé's first decade.

Formerly called Rolé Carioca, the project was created in 2012 with the aim of telling stories of the city through free guided tours, having taken more than 20 thousand people through the streets of Rio in more than 50 scripts. During its first decade, the project has matured and is now present on multiple communication platforms with historical content, like the traditional video tours, database, maps, virtual museum, among others.

Visit to the City Historical Museum, reopened to the public in 2021 after 10 years without visitation, will not only take rolezeiros on an unprecedented tour of the city's memory and cultural legacy, as well as presenting visitors with a series of novelties.

Rolé is a project about the city for its citizens, whose main mission is to motivate urban circulation, the valorization of the historical and cultural heritage and, Consequently, impact the vibrancy of local cultural life. Therefore, there couldn't be a better place than the renovated Museu Histórico da Cidade to hold our official event celebrating the first decade of the project.. There will be cake, music, raffle, in addition to being a great opportunity for families to have a picnic in the wonderful area of ​​the park after the tour. We invite all rolezeiros to our celebration”, highlights Isabel Seixas, founder and director of Rolé.

Founded in the year 1934 during the administration of Mayor Pedro Ernesto, the City Historical Museum had as its first headquarters the City Hall Palace, in Praça da República, before being transferred to City Park in 1941. The place has a beautiful architectural complex., which includes a mansion, Where is the museum's current headquarters located?; the Chapel of Saint John the Baptist, dated from the 20th century; and a shed for exhibitions, among other points that will be explored in the tour itinerary, in addition to the lush green area of ​​Parque da Cidade.

The museum conducts research, gathers samples and provides an active educational and cultural program, with a valuable collection of more than 24 thousand pieces. Among some of his important works, photographic collections with more than 6.500 city ​​history pictures – including plans for the opening of Avenida Central, current Avenida Rio Branco, which has already been the subject of a Rolé tour in 2018; watercolors by authors such as Thomas Ender and Adalbert of Prussia, depicting Rio de Janeiro in the early 19th century; and engravings and lithographs of Rio in the colonial and imperial periods. The museum also keeps valuable items from the Guilherme Guinle Collection, one of the former owners of the property, and a sculpture that served as a study for the construction of the head of the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

No environment of so many relevant works, the Municipal Natural Park of the City, popularly known as City Park, covers a beautiful area of 470 thousand m² of woods and gardens, with children's play area, picnics and a circuit of sculptures by artists such as Celeida Tostes and Fernando Correia Dias. After the guided tour, visitors will be able to enjoy a picnic in the large green area of ​​the site, taking your lunch or taking advantage of the park's snack bar. Musical attractions and other surprises also promise to stir up the special anniversary edition of Rolé.

Rolé is a cultural project that researches, catalogs and disseminates content about the historical and cultural heritage of Rio de Janeiro. the roll, with more than 40 thousand followers on social media, has the mission of forming a multiplatform collection about the history, culture and memory of the city, with actions that present it in different formats, such as guided tours of more than 50 scripts, database with more than 500 mapped points, video channel, site, game, application etc.
