The artist Ricardo Ribenboim Displays, em dated following no cultural circuit of Rio de Janeiro, after an absence of 18 years, two solo exhibitions: “Trail of Restos”, no Paço Imperial and "Chance"on OASIS Space. Both shows are curated by Yuri Quevedo. The 120 unpublished works on display, even not presenting themselves as clippings of a whole, offer two complementary and elucidating aspects of the artist's production in recent 5 years. In "Trail of Restos”, the works dialogue with time and display the artist's awareness of the course of history, the passage of time and the finitude of things from which the possibility of transforming the whole into vestiges arises. Already in "Chance”, there is sharing by the artist, of his creative process where he resignifies fragments of old works. Ricardo Ribenboim offers the proposition of coexistence with the mutable and the uncertain, without seeking to stop the flow of events and life, but admiring them as an aesthetic force.

“In each of the spaces, the production of Ricardo Ribenboim is seen in a different light. On Paço Imperial, we have the latest investigation of the artist, that starts from traces of the past to configure the new. already in the Oasis, experimental residency space, are those works where he shares with us his work process and the obstacles to elaborating what surrounds him.”, explains the curator.

Trail of Restos” – Paço Imperial

“From memory, Ribenboim proposes the singularity”, define Yuri Quevedo.

collecting, randomly, remains of miscellaneous materials, fragments of the ordinary, of the urban, remains of the studio, traces of his own work with memories of his trajectory, the artist faces the challenge and the need to create the new and present it in the selection of 80 works on display. While many seek to find the meaning of a cohesive whole, Ricardo Ribenboim goes against the grain and makes disarticulation its method; breaks down entire systems and analyzes them and, being the artist who “finds new poetry in what is left – that which is substantive in the trace of the remains”, says curator. The artist formulates an ecology of his own – what is left of something, can serve as support for a new reality. Here, the story is seen as a plot, in which cycles are recycled, interspersed with gaps of forgetfulness.

By building landmarks and banners with these scraps of memories, Ribenboim share with us your ethics: memory can be matter of the present as it acquires meaning in the now.

Chance” – oasis space

In recent years, Ribenboim made the studio and the trajectory itself, a space for reflection, where your potent creative side ends unfinished objects, reanimate pieces of old works and give them new shape, new order, new significance. In 40 works selected by the curator, are the large canvases where 'sinister silhouettes try to break through the layers'. In this way “the artist shares with us the value of doing as a thought, of doing while in doubt, of doing as a process of configuring oneself and the world – and not as a terrain of definitions and certainties”, explains Yuri.

In "Chance”, Ricardo Ribenboim describe your creative process, the hardships of doing, where it rescues the kept vestiges of what things were before being articulated in new senses: his paintings look at his sculptures to transform them into images.

To Yuri Quevedo, “as in the dream, the shapeless broth of the unconscious gains substance in associations, coincidences and fittings. Indefinitions that resist being figured, then chance becomes a subject”.
