Reliquaries, parts, medals, prints and other objects tell the story of the Western world
The Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo – BUT/SP, institution of Department of culture of the State, Displays “Relic: Transcendence of the body“, curated by Ario Borges Nartey and Beatriz Vicente de Azevedo. The exhibition is composed of about 300 parts and depicts the 21 centuries of the Christian era, from a fragment of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, going through all the stages of History, until the relic of St. John Paul II, deceased in 2005.
This new exhibition features the history of the Western world through these objects, material elements that bear witness, Although minimally, a conjunction of stories. The curator Beatriz Vicente de Azevedo comments: “The exhibition ‘Relic, Transcendence of the body‘ is a point of pride for the city of São Paulo. It's unbelievable and wonderful that you can find in our town a collection as Rico and as full of relics ranging from the beginnings of Christianity to the present day. Visit the exhibition is the opportunity to make a real dip in the history of the Western world, on the basis of the Church”.
