In more than 400 years of history, the opera universe has a series of striking pieces, recognized even for audiences unfamiliar with classical music. In six weekly virtual meetings, always on Mondays, at 8:0 pm, the ‘Opera through the Times’ project aims to present some of these most appreciated passages, with comments on the main styles of each season, its composers, the context and plot of the main operas over the years.

Broadcasts, that will take place live by channel Direction Culture, bring together nine experienced singers, that will take turns over the six meetings, with accompaniment of orchestra reduction for piano. Taking a historical tour, the project will go through the Baroque styles, classic and romantic – from belcanto to verismo – to contemporary. The first event, on 15 March, is dedicated to the Baroque period, located between the 17th and 18th centuries, highlighting Händel (1685 – 1759), composer born in germany, who passed through Italy before becoming a British citizen.

Accompanying guest musicians, Chiquinho Costa is a pianist with a doctorate in the field from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) and years of practice in accompanying lyrical singers in presentations, singing rehearsals and contests. He will make the comments between the presentations together with Pepes do Valle, who shares with him the artistic coordination of the ‘Opera through the Times’ project and is a prominent low-baritone of the national lyrical scene, e Antoine Kolokathis, creator and producer of the initiative. Founder of Direction Cultura Produções and specialized in public training actions, through projects such as Theater in Schools, Animation Workshops, Classics on the Scene and Cultural Workshops, Antoine is also a tenor, and will be one of the singers of the program dedicated to Verdi and Puccini, on 05 April.
