Project "MNBA: Open for works": Panorama by Vitor Meireles

In order to promote a dialogue between the collection of the National Museum of Fine Arts/Ibram and the public, through the presentation of research carried out on its collection and including the exhibition of works of art, on the next day 30 September, there will be another edition of the “MNBA: open for works".

On date presential this thursday, at 3:0 pm, the museum educator, Amândio Miguel, will address the “Study for Panorama of Rio de Janeiro” (about 1885), by Vitor Meireles, with an introduction by the MNBA director, historian Vera Mangas.

“The Panoramas of the City of Rio de Janeiro, by Vitor Meireles, express not only the city's urban landscape, but suggest a new look at this; like a pictorial window, reveal the landscape as we know it, in a time frame, whose urban matrix is ​​historically situated”, explains educator Amândio Santos.

Victor Meireles (1832-1903) was one of the most popular and expressive artists in Brazil during the second half of the 19th century. Born in Santa Catarina, was protected by D. Pedro II, studied and taught at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts (AIBA), where he trained generations of artists who passed there, before leaving for improvement in Europe.
