Photographic Project Olhar de Baleia – “Lives at Sea but is not Fish”
Olhar de Baleia (Look of Whales) is a series resulting from the way an artist sees everyday individual's relationship with the sea. It is an effect of the revolution of digital cameras, from the popularity of them as a consumer product in the late twentieth century. The photograph became a phenomenon and changed paradigms, minimizing costs, accelerating processes and democratizing the manipulation of images. These technological advances have allowed systematic improvements in the quality of images produced.
The Artist, within this whole revolution, was inspired to photograph the sea from a differently way, possible from the use of a mini camera – the GoPro, widely used for shooting extreme sports by being compact and capture images in high definition. With camera in hand of the artist, as well as the whale lives in the sea, but it is not fish, images of mini camera have become art and intend to surprise the viewers with a bold new technique of shooting, experimenting with new angles and looks.
Lover of the sea, the artist André Fernandes was inspired to shoot with a new technique, making a parallel with the sight of whales, that live in the sea, but are not fish. These photographs portray the various relationships with the sea and aims to delight people through art.
