(…)The popularization of the scene of the birth of Jesus happened from the 14th century, with the installation of cribs during Christmas, with terracotta figures, wax or wood. The tradition started in Italy, then expanded to Spain and other European countries, driven by the Franciscan priests, in order to convey the message of redemption, for representing the birth of Jesus. ”, explains D. Devair Araújo da Fonseca, Auxiliary Bishop of São Paulo.
