The Chamber Orchestra of the city of Curitiba closed the presentations of the IV Biennial Music Today, International Festival of contemporary music which takes place in Curitiba, establishing a dialogue between the brazilian and the musical production that has been created in the world, in this area. The concerts take place in the chapel Santa Maria, the Friday 8:0 pm (25) and at 6:30 pm on Saturday (26), under the baton of the conductor and composer Gaucho Márcio Steuernagel and musical director of the Ensemble entreCompositores.
The repertoire, the three finalists of the IV National Contest works of Music Composition Today, dedicated to the promotion of production of new orchestral music by Brazilian composers. The works of composers Santiago Beis, José Orlando Alves and Igor Rabbit Ahir Santana Marques were selected anonymously by a specialized jury. The winning work will be chosen by the public and jury present in concerts.
The concert also features the best of music from Brazil and the world today. Among the attractions are the presence of pianist and composer Marisa Rezende, one of the creators of the new music Group of UFRJ; the premiere of "Rite, flower, a garden ", especially commissioned to Fernando Riederer for IV Biennial Music Today (with special participation of the UM2UO); and, in an unprecedented run of an orchestral work of the Italian composer Salvatore Sciarrino in Brazil, the premiere in the Americas of “L'idealelucente e le page rubate” – a tribute to the 70 years of one of the most important living composers.
The event is directed by ensemble entreCompositores (Fernando Riederer, Lucas Fruhauf, Márcio Steuernagel and Vinicius Giusti) and consists of concerts, lectures and workshops that seek to discuss new ways of music, placing local production, national and international dialogue and Exchange. The Biennial Music Today, in conjunction with other events such as the SiMN (International Symposium on new song) Affirming the Curitiba city comes as the capital of new music in Brazil. In parallel with the official program, the biennial Music Today cooperates with two cultural promoters of the city of Curitiba: the Composters and creation Space Bar Platypus.
