On occasion, the sculpture was sent to the Easton Foundation, in New York, for verification and restoration, to ensure their longevity and enable their display in various exhibition spaces. Last December, Spider put the road.
First, the work was carried Minas Gerais, to be displayed in the Gallery Forest of CACI. Followed for the Iberê Camargo Foundation, in Porto Alegre, and the Oscar Niemeyer Museum, in Curitiba. Now comes the SEA and, to this day, was designed special programming to the public, with free admission from 10 am until the museum's closing. 16:30, is presenting DJ Tamy, at 18h, the Pieta band does show. In 2020, sculpture will travel, starting with the Cultural Center UNIFOR, in Fortaleza.
"Just as with much of the Itaú Cultural Collection, we decided to move one of its most important international projects and expand public access to this great sculpture ", says the director of Itaú Cultural, Eduardo Saron.
This Spider is the first of six that the artist produced in bronze from the mid 1990 and they are scattered around the world. With her, also comes the picture Spider and Snake - the 15th of 50 performed by Louise 2003, with a dimension 48,2 x 44,1 cm and belonging to the Itaú collection.
The travel Spider by Brazil are accompanied by a text by art critic Paulo Herkenhoff and a little more than five minutes video conducted by Itaú Cultural team, with account of also critical Veronica Stigger. This material was specially produced for these itinerancies.
Between sculpture images, Veronica talks about the artist's life is intertwined with this its creation. She takes on words Herkenhoff to state that the spiders of Louise Bourgeois represent the mother of artist, synthesized in two seemingly paradoxical adjectives: fragile and strong. says Veronica: “Fragility and strength come together in this version of Spider. At first sight, It is an impressive part, both to a monstrous: it is all in bronze, three and a half meters in height, eight long legs and a central core, all twisted in spiral, which takes the place of head and belly. - a big belly able to store the eggs "concludes: "In a closer look, is perceived as, despite the strength and rigidity of bronze, it is also fragile, delicate: its legs are long and thin, giving the impression of being insufficient to support the heavy body of the spider. "
Made in bronze, sculpture weighs over 700 kg - 68kg, each of the eight legs; 113kg 57kg body and head. Your pick, It requires great care and dedication. With the absence of the original sketch and sculpture project, Itaú Cultural team created an apparatus to ensure its structure in the disassembly and reassembly. The institute's production designed a platform that is placed under it to support it. paws, whose tips are needle-like, are removed one by one while a kind of cradle rises from the platform to hold the body of the heavy arachnid. To be traced, the path is the opposite.
