[Canceled] MNBA recovery seminars: “The Aesthetics of Faith” starts next week

Continuing the research developed in Module Colonial Art, Art Gallery of Brazilian nineteenth century the Museu Nacional de Bellas Artes, The seminar will examine the issue of the Aesthetic of Faith, aimed at correlating historical aspects, typological and iconographic reality of the Luso-Brazilian.

It will consist of 09 lessons divided into three modules:

1º módulo: days 07, 08 and 09 October, from 16 to 18 hours
Professor Anthony Edmilson Rodrigues Martins (PUC-Rio)
Title: The birth of modern religiosity - a vision of the aesthetics of faith in the New World

Synopsis: This module will present the tensions and contrasts produced in religious culture in the transition from the Middle Ages to the early modern through the relationship between aesthetics and faith, observing how the representations of religiosity are expressed in art and culture of the Renaissance, Baroque and Modernism.

Aesthetic seminar of faith in the National Museum of fine arts2º módulo: days 14, 15 and 16 October, from 16 to 18 hours
Professor, Art historians, Anna Maria Fausto Monteiro de Carvalho (PUC-Rio)
Title: The Christological and Marian Devotion in the Aesthetics of Faith and its developments in Brazilian culture.

Synopsis: The first lesson examines the cycle of the Mysteries of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ, always intuited in Christianity as the climax of the love of Jesus for the salvation of mankind. The second analyzes the devotional diversity of Marian devotion, developed especially through the writings of St. Bernard (1090-1153) on the Virgin Mary, that dealt with this subject in its historical dimension, both the individual and the salvation. The third deals with the question of Christological and Marian devotions in Brazilian culture, analyzing the prevalence of images of Christ Crucified (agonal and killed) and devotions to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Our Lady of Sorrows and Our Lady of the Rosary.

3º módulo: days 21, 22 and 23 October, from 16 to 18 hours
Professor, Master in Social History of Culture, Cesar Augusto Silva Tovar (PUC-Rio)
Title: The devotion to the saints in the Faith Aesthetics and its developments in Brazilian culture.

Synopsis: This module will present, through the point of view of the History of Art and Culture, some of the foundations for understanding the phenomenon of the cult of saints in the West, manifested by the materiality of their images and relics in the Middle Ages (1ª aula), in connection contrarreformista (2ª aula) and in fact cultural and artistic Brazilian (3ª aula).

Registration Fee: £ 100.00 per module for the general public; R$ 50,00 per module for students, teachers, retirees and those over 65 years.

The performance of each module is subject to number of entries.
Certificate will be issued to participants who attended at least two classes in a module.
