Exhibition presents an unprecedented series of portraits inspired by online dating platforms.

With critical text by Renato Rezende, works can be seen from 12 from June to 9 August, with free admission.

The Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism, through the Uberlândia Integrated Arts and Cultures Directorate (MG), presents the exhibition “Match!”, by Rio artist Júnia Azevedo.

With critical text by Renato Rezende, the exhibition is on display in 12 from June to 9 August, at the Geraldo Queiroz Art Gallery. “Match!” presents ten never-before-seen portraits in graphite on paper, where the artist records how middle-aged men, mostly white, straight and urban, introduce themselves on a virtual dating site.

Between the simple and the ironic, the set ends up revealing symbolic aspects of our society. Carried out through notice, the exhibition can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, with free admission.

The project was approved through a notice from the Uberlândia Department of Culture and Tourism.

On a dating app, a candidate has just a few seconds to sell themselves: a good photo, a couple of sentences and that's all. In a drag of fingers, the suitor may be summarily dismissed.

“Based on this mechanic, I started researching how middle-aged men present themselves. What photos choose, what they say about you, what they think might be attractive to a woman? This is how the portraits of the Match series were born!”, reveals the artist.

According to Renato Rezende, the result are works that provoke us, destabilizing us between repudiation and tenderness, between the aesthetic and the ethical, between the tragic and the laughable.

“This is the artist’s greatest asset. The work of Junia is feminist, without being moralistic; it's critical, without being simplistic; is perverse, without being sadistic. Just seemingly simple, the works on display are mature, complex. Shake the patriarchy, with your ironic approach, but at the same time they work like a mirror, causing us discomfort by making us think about our own ridiculousness.”, explains.

With the exhibition, the Municipal Department of Culture and Tourism of Uberlândia intends to offer space and visibility to the production of visual arts artists from other locations, promoting artistic-cultural exchange with the local community.
