The Museum of sacred art promotes a free course on the theme "Independent America: Art, Culture and politics ", with Professor. Dr. Marcos Horácio Gomes Days.
OBJECTIVE
Present a study on the role of art, culture and politics in American history, discussing the production, circulation and appropriation of representations that qualify the America of the 19th and 20th centuries as a space of encounter of diverse cultures. The course aims to understand how America has behaved from the independence of their countries and as artists and artisans have appropriated European conventions, African and indigenous cultural production of the continent. With the aid of history, art and Cultural Anthropology, the course contributes to the discussion about the cultural and artistic development of contemporary America along different stages: Neoclassicism, Belle Époque, Modernism, pró-fascismo, military dictatorships etc.

PROFESSOR
Marcos Horácio Gomes Days doctor in Social History from PUC-SP; Master in Social History at USP; a graduate degree in art and Baroque Culture by the Institute of philosophy, Art and culture of the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP) and a Bachelor's degree in social sciences from USP. Has experience in the field of history and sociology, with emphasis in History, acting on the following subjects: Art History; History of Baroque and Rococo; Art and culture in Minas Gerais; Neoclassical, Empire and the 19th century in Brazil; Culture theory; Historical Heritage; History of image Production; Communication theory and socio-economic Reality and Brazilian politics.
