Inspired by the modernism of Brasilia's architecture, Isabel innovates in these works, this time running away from the fleeting moment of the instant click, that has guided his work to this day., to venture into studied photographs, using light and shadow as paints.

Departing from the harshest light, and their shadows on the facades of the capital, the artist recreates drawings within the design of the monumental work created by Lúcio Costa and Oscar Niemeyer. The brise-soleils and the cobogós, ventilation resources widely used in these facades, turn into optical illusions, very much to the taste of the Optical Art of the years 70. The influence of Athos Bulcão's tiles appears in the square format of the paintings.

The architectural fragments that star in the work of Isabel Becker were mapped with the contribution of the architect candanga Graziela Pires. They were carefully chosen locations in order to convey as much of the strength and concepts of the local architecture as possible..

Curated by Christiane Laclau from Artmotiv this exhibition marks a new moment for Isabel Becker.

“Isabel Becker’s photographs are the result of extensive and intense mining on the facades of Brasília. Cutouts of iconic architectural elements that she captures and brings together to show them in unique compositions and resignified by her look..

Fragments of history and memory that, repeated, mounted and mirrored in kaleidoscopic compositions, insert their production in the field of Op-Art.” Martha Pagy – Art Office.
