“The Unknown Saga of the SHADOW OF CHRIST and His Church”
A novel by Jack Brandão
Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo – BUT/SP, institution of the Department of Culture and Economy of the State of São Paulo Creative, in partnership with the publisher The light and power receive for the book release authored by Prof. Dr. Jack Barnett – “The Unknown Saga of the SHADOW OF CHRIST and His Church”.
The publication is the result, in the form of a novel, more than three decades of research on one of the most studied topics in the world during the sec. XX – the Holy Shroud of Turin – carried out by one of the most recognized researchers on the topic in the Southern Hemisphere. In it, o Prof. Jack Brandão reports results from a research carried out through “an archeology not only of the object itself, as well as the Church which is formed through the apostles and their successors.”
“To discuss the Holy Shroud is to enter a swampy terrain, filled with fantastic narratives, many of which were propagated by pious people who had not even experienced them., but who heard from someone what they received from another who heard from a third… Such a fissure was only possible due to the absence of reliable records both in the Gospels - which left us with very little information in this regard or to focus on the essential, the resurrection of the Lord, or not to have to reproduce and propagate a banal act within that society –, as in the so-called official history, often also preoccupied with the unusual and the diverse.
Presents, credibly, the possible origin of the fabric – from the plantation of flax in Egypt, their manufacture on the Syrian looms until their arrival in Jerusalem —, the means employed to safeguard it and protect it from the enemies of the faith, as well as its elevation to scientific object, from photography by Pio Secondo, in 1898. Using the linen fabric as the main character of his saga, we will not only have a journey through the history of the Holy Shroud, as well as the emergence and development of the Church, your story, their anxieties and their conflicts within the Roman and Persian Empires.”
