John Nicholson expands pictorial horizon in new works exhibited at Espaço Blombô

John Vincent Nicholson, Texan artist who has lived in Rio de Janeiro for more than 40 years, is back to São Paulo and presents the exhibition "Quantum Horizons", in hybrid format, face-to-face and online at the same time, in space Blombot.

The presentation is composed of 17 works, that will be available for visitation and will be for sale, from day 15 September until 16 October.

According to Zenon Valcacer, curator responsible for Nicholson's exhibition, the main feature of this new phase in the lyrical abstract in which he immersed himself since the years 80, “It was the desire to lower the chromatic strength to try out other possibilities, both in colors and compositions, and the picture "AT ONE WITH THE PEACE OF THE WORLD"represents the apogee of this chromatic and compositional progression".

Also according to the curator, after this frame, John Nicholson felt the need to expand the pictorial horizon and began working with Diptychs and Triptychs, whose results in this way of much larger scales are very different from the phase before the 2019. "So, we decided to make this exhibition in São Paulo to illustrate a little the development of its creative language”, highlights the curatorship of Nicholson's works.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITOR:

After studying fine arts at the University of Houston and the University of Texas, in the United States, John Vincent Nicholson moved to Rio de Janeiro, in 1977.

In Rio de Janeiro, began his career as a teacher at the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts, in 1980, year in which he participates in several collective exhibitions in Rio de Janeiro and produces, together with Luiz Aquila and Claudio Kuperman, the "Big Screen", gigantic panel that represents a clear statement of affirmation of painting.

Because of his performance as a painter and teacher in this period, Nicholson becomes one of the masters of the so-called “80s Generation”, launched in Brazil in a historical exhibition held at Parque Lage, in 1984. With your move to Brazil, your painting, initially figurative, it transforms and expresses itself through the use of superposition of planes and strong colors of pop art and abstract expressionism.
