The show is formed by a set of eleven new sculptures produced from cuts and folds in six corten steel plates, fully used. Although they arise from identical sheets and undergo cuts and bends that are often the same, each of the eleven sculptures can be perceived in a particular way.

Resende proposes the total occupation of the gallery space and thus, a closer contact with the viewer, who, walking through the sculptures, perceives more easily than with just the rotation of some of them, other quite different.

With the title “Footnotes: Amilcar, Lygia e Weissmann”, José Resende clearly explains the references with which this work is related, summoning, allusively, the three neoconcrete artists to address issues of interest they share. The exhibition features a critical text by curator Diego Matos.

One of the most important artists of Brazilian sculpture, José Resende (1945, São Paulo, Brasil) explore, since decade of 1960, the expressive potential of industrial materials as diverse as steel, lead, covers, paraffin and the relationships they establish with space through the dynamics of weight and balance.

During the decades of 1960 and 1970, Resende was at the forefront of significant projects for the history of Brazilian art that sought to raise questions around art teaching, from critics and the market like Rex Gallery and Sons, School Brazil, the Magazine Malasartes and the newspaper A Parte do Fogo.

From the 1990, develops art projects for public spaces, expanding his investigation into the effects of the relationship between his works and the dynamics of urban space. stand out, among them: Or Passerby (1996) in Largo da Carioca, Rio de Janeiro; the untitled play (1997) which integrates the Sculpture Garden at Ibirapuera Park and the three pairs of suspended wagons on the side of Radial Leste, in the Art/City Urban Intervention Group (São Paulo, 2002).

José Resende participated in several national and international exhibitions, including the Paris Biennale in 1980, the Venice Biennale in 1988, the 9th Kassel Documenta in 1992, the Sydney Biennale in 1998 and several editions of the Bienal de São Paulo.

In 1984, received a grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and lived in New York for one year. Among his recent exhibitions, stand out: José Resende: On the membrane of the world, at the Iberê Camargo Foundation (Porto Alegre, 2021); 331st International Biennial of São Paulo (2018) and José Resende, at the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo (São Paulo, 2015).

His work is part of the collections of MoMA – The Museum of Modern Art (New York), MAM-SP – Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, MAC/USP and Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo.

RAU was born in Ribeirão Preto in 1997 and 2017 started his graduation in Architecture and Urbanism. in your paintings, incorporates aspects of film language, and influenced by directors such as Koji Wakamatsu, Hisayasu Satô e Takashi Ishii, explores scenic framing and associations between text and image to represent situations of tension and mystery.

“Managers of new anxieties”, show title, references the short story “Night Picnic” by writer Izumi Suzuki (1949–1986), counterculture icon and pioneer of Japanese science fiction.“Night Picnic” is the story of a group, supposedly the last survivor on a post-apocalyptic planet, that tries to perform the dynamics of a human family from the vestiges of the “earthly” culture. They draw inspiration from popular novels and advertisements., reenacting clichés from television series.

Their Works, RAU follows the tone of the critique of mass culture explored by Suzuki in the 1990s. 1970 to place it in the context of the dramas of ordinary men and women, inhabitants of any major city of today's times.

Intimate scenes of characters in front of the mirror, smoking a cigarette while painting their nails or talking on the phone inside a small apartment mix with other scenes where there seems to be some conflict at work, hinted at by the posture of the bodies, exchange of glances and power figures such as police and judges. A disenchanted and cynical atmosphere fills RAU's paintings, that settle in pastel tones and occasionally scare us with their red.

To compose your scenes, RAU part of its huge collection of images and texts, movie stills and quotes, visual and literary elements that allow him to superimpose references to a rhythm of pictorial practice that he defines as fast.

Your agile brushstrokes, more concerned with defining the contrasts between lights and shadows, give the dimension of a painting that, no matter how figurative, does not intend to describe the image in detail. Interested in provoking ambiguous readings of his compositions, RAU uses the title space of the work or even the screen to explore the power of the word and cause some noise between text and image, incorporating, for this, references as diverse as Susan Sontag's literature and Twitter quotes.

The dissociation that RAU seeks in his painting is also manifested in the choices of framing., frequently moving one of your characters out of frame, thus evidencing his interest in what is not immediately perceived and inviting the public to imagine what came before and what might come after that time in suspension
