The walls covered with paper,
Design of Cherubim, holding
Cornucopia and ties,
Portraits of ancestors, solemn, strutting,
People of dantes.
(CORALINA, p. 61, 2004)
Only a poetic look could describe an ancient mansion, so beautiful. In this short excerpt of poetry, Cora Coralina (1889-1985) speak to us of ancient times, whose portraits pale, slowly, with the passing of time and life. And the mind of those who read, will writing the image of these people, of bygone days, with towering look, of body trim;, in monochrome images, already faded by time.
Such monochrome images translate maybe, in longing, in nostalgia, in Poetry. Those are the images that the SESC Belenzinho, in São Paulo, is showing until the day 31 July. The exhibition, It gets its name from Popular Picture-of the vernacular to the show, has curated by Rosely Nakagawa, Titus Riedl and Valeria Laena. From the Cearense culture Museum of the Centro Cultural Dragão do Mar, the acquis is Rico in old photographs, ex-voto, with original moldings; cards, portraits, monoculars, lick lick, photopaintings and postcards. In the set, There are anonymous records, but also images of portraitists Luiz Santos, Mestre Júlio Santos, Tiago Santana and Tonho Ceará.
The connoisseur, It remains to visit and understand a little more about the work of professionals who took poetry for the popular. Tiago Santana, presents photos of your personal file about the universe of photography popular in the cities of Juazeiro do Norte and Canindé, no Ceará, City where he was born and where he lived much of his life. His work is the result of a survey of ten years. His monochrome language, remember the strings in that region, connects to the woodcut and tells a little of the history of the Brazilian Northeast. For him, the technology has always been present in the field of photography and, as an important work tool, can assist in the creative process, but it's up to the photographer to make his work acquire personality. The photo tells stories about people, about places; and it is through the monochrome which reinforces the focus of observation, for human expressions, to the look and to the gestures. Poetry then reveals himself, by the look of the photographer, the personality that his work acquires.
Tonho Ceará came to be religious events photographer, of pilgrimages and identification documents, with the machine lambe-lambe, What caught the eye of Luiz Santos. Then came, from there, a link and partnership, that translated into a contemporary vision of the ancient form of photograph. Luiz Santos reveals her I like to be around people, discovering characters and invites the Viewer to interpret his work, the way art should be interpreted, in your details, No rush. There is poetry. The fact that you have worked, in the years 80, with the revelation of photo, allowed to be given more emphasis to the monochrome work.
Although the focus of the show is to portray craft and will preserve a moment, the visit leads the viewer deeper content, regarding the new technologies, aggregated to photograph and how it has changed in the last decade. In order to take this reflection, the SESC still promotes a full schedule, including workshops and activities carried out during the period of the exhibition. And the best of art is the result of the meeting between the contemporary and the ancient, under the watchful eye of professional, able to capture a moment and turn it into Poetry.
