Day Librarian: professionals gather to remember the importance of the profession

On 12 March is celebrated throughout Brazil Day Librarian. The date is in honor of the birth of Manuel Bastos Tigre (1882-1957), considered the first librarian by tender, in Brazil.

To honor the professionals, the Regional Library Council 8th region will hold in March several events in Sao Paulo (capital) and the cities of San Carlos, Ribeirão Preto, Campinas, Bauru and Taubaté.

In São Paulo, SESC 24 May, in São Paulo Center, get on 10 March, Tuesday, from 18:30 to 22h, the lecture "The importance of knowledge and information in the context of the digital transformation: emotional competence partner, knowledge management and the work of the future ", given by Prof.. The program continues in the capital on 16/03, at 19h, with a solemn meeting to celebrate Day of the Librarian, in the Municipality of São Paulo, at the initiative of Councilor Rodrigo Goulart. After the ceremony is scheduled a roundtable with the theme "Bibliographic and documentary heritage: the library as memory space preservation " with the participation of researchers Maria das Merces Apostle and Rosaelena Scarpeline.

According to the president of the Regional Council of Library – 8th region, Regina Celi de Sousa, the idea of ​​these events is to emphasize the importance of professional librarian and think about the challenges and possibilities of the profession in the face of technological advancement, which implies the development of new products and information services and the preservation of information and documents, both in physical libraries as digital and virtual libraries.
