Between criminal investigation, murders and a missing child, the writer proposes to raise important themes in “Beijo de butterfly”
Inspired by Agatha Christie, Tess Gerritsen, C.J. Tudor and in itself, to biomedical Vanessa Guimaraes recently announced the release of “Beijo de butterfly”, debut book that features her alter ego in the main character. Currently, the Rio native is the mother of two teenagers, married and alternates her residence between Brazil and Portugal, while she usually claims to be a biomedical doctor in Rio de Janeiro and a writer in Lisbon.
Raising questions about thoughts watered and plastered with prejudices in relation to the unknown, “Butterfly Kiss” presents us Joanna Guivel, an intellectually brilliant woman, who is always looking to conquer her space and break barriers without losing her sensitivity “Maybe I gave life to a version of myself because of this need to live in such an intense way.”, the writer said in an interview.
With a lot of suspense behind a police investigation, Vanessa Guimarães aims to break preconceptions through a narrative that explores the world's cultural diversity in an inclusive way; na trama, she uses the beliefs of a gypsy to broaden a character's horizons.
“Butterfly Kiss” is the biomedic’s debut novel. The story revolves around an almost indecipherable case in one of the upscale neighborhoods of Florianópolis., where a child 5 years disappear at home. Encountering difficulties in the solution, the researcher realizes that he is unable to work alone and requests help from Joanna Guivel to unravel the mystery. The book is scheduled to be released in September by Editorial Group Coherence.
Synopsis
In one of the upscale neighborhoods of Florianópolis, Nicole disappears from her home in the middle of the night. A few hours after reporting to the police, the family of the five-year-old child sees his past exposed in the media and social networks; below the photos, reporters hungry for a scoop, explore the fact that Nicole has a famous father, a terminally ill mother and a stepfather marked by a personal tragedy.
The population, motivated by sensationalist articles, demands responses from local police, making Vincent Aquires, the responsible investigator, begin to be pressured by their superiors. Finding yourself unable to solve the crime alone, All you have to do is seek help, and it is then that Joanna Guivel arrives in Florianópolis and begins to dedicate all her time and talent to the case.
Known for her brilliant and sensitive acting, the detective quickly finds the clues needed to advance the investigation. As the pieces fall into place, the crime takes on unbelievable proportions., what causes new victims to emerge.

Vanessa Guimarães was born in 1975, in Rio de Janeiro. Always lived between test tubes, research and diagnostics, but not as a detective or expert—a teenage dream, when I was already a fan of detective novels —, and yes as biomedical. A voracious reader since childhood, I always knew that his fascination with detective literature would bring something great to light., what has become of your writings. Currently, takes turns between Brazil and Portugal, working as a biomedical doctor in Rio de Janeiro and as a writer in Lisbon.
