“Entretempo” represents the artist's search for resignification, in a concept that deals with aesthetics, of the time, of feeling, the presence and even the overcoming of a trauma

The Bianca Boeckel Galeria displays "betweentime“, solo by the visual artist from Rio de Janeiro Gabi Gelli, curated by Bianca Boeckel. In his first exhibition in São Paulo, the artist presents 30 works - photographs, paintings, pottery, embroidery, sculptures and installations – which represent his quest for resignification, in a concept that addresses the aesthetics of the body, the time, the feeling, the presence and overcoming of traumatic experiences.

With the aim of working for a common purpose, to art of Gabi Gelli talk about survival, to be stronger than the mishaps of life and acceptance. At the age of 16 years old the artist had to deal with a difficult diagnosis and the need for heart surgery. From now on, started his artistic production instinctively, and the verb "resignify" started to guide all this way. Overcoming this experience, the series “An instant forever” appeared – in which he photographed scars of 21 people and then turned them into embroidery, redefining brands that were previously seen as the ugliest part of their bodies in beautiful works of art -, and "Cure", which addresses the trajectory and internal overcoming of trauma, highlighting the ceramic sculptures of hearts symbolizing each stage experienced. About the first series, the artist comments: “It's something that is part of you. Only those who are alive have scars and that's beautiful, we have to put it in evidence instead of hiding. These works show how scars can be graphically beautiful. I seek to reframe that aesthetic of the perfect body, unmarked – especially because one scar is never the same as another, what makes us unique”.

in his third grade – "Hands", Gabi Gelli seeks the resignification of time and presence. To obtain the molds that are used to support the works, it was necessary to submerge his hands in plaster for a few minutes. “At the beginning, I felt anguished for having both hands there, the cell phone ringing, several things to solve and me without movement until the mold dries. For me, that was despair – I'm a person connected to 220v, I never imagined standing in the studio”. So, the artist proposed to make as many hands as necessary to calm down and assimilate something of that experience, and so he discovered a form of active meditation. “I made one mold after another, made and dried, nonstop. In one day I did 12, on the other I wanted to do 14. At the beginning, I was desperate for the mold to dry quickly, but little by little this process taught me to respect the timing of things”, comments. In this way, came to understand the concept of being present and went back to meditating, something that makes her very well and that she hadn't practiced for years. Discovered that their fears come from lack of presence.

By sharing personal experiences, the artist seeks to get closer to the public and help other people through works that provoke an immediate identification, as they deal with universal issues that, one way or another, reach everyone. In the words of the curator Bianca Boeckel: “I didn't go through a big trauma in life, which does not prevent me from assimilating what the artist reports and reflecting on my own trajectory. Gabi's work celebrates overcoming difficulties. have the pain, the trauma and the scar, but what could have been heavy and dark was transformed into beauty through her metaphorical vision”.
