Its architecture responds to the beautiful curves of the mountains and the sea line. Barra da Tijuca entrance door, the City of Arts is seen as a great house, a balcony over the city, homage to an archetype of Brazilian architecture. Christian de Portzamparc, graduou-se na National School of Fine Arts in Paris, in 1970 and has since been noted for his bold designs and artistic flair; their projects reflect a sensitivity to their environments and the city is a basic principle of their work.
CINEMA – “SHORT IN FRENCH” SHOW
Launch: 21 July to 21 August 2021
Display of 13 short films with Portuguese subtitles
Free access via the SESC Digital platform:

The programation short in french – Species of spaces (Space species), organized by the Alliance Française Brazil in partnership with SESC São Paulo and with the support of the French Embassy in Brazil, the Institut Français and Wallonie-Bruxelles International and is back with a special online edition free of charge via the Sesc Digital platform, with 13 short films on the subject of architecture, urbanism and territorial development in different directions.
In synergy with the themes discussed during the UIA 2021 and with the objective of provoking the exchange of ideas and experiences and encouraging debates, the show features a selection of short films that deal with the themes in different ways., either through a more contemporary or more historical approach., providing examples of land use planning in the urban and even social environment.
The title of the series “Space species” (in Portuguese, “Space species”), is a reference to the work of Georges Perec. The author Georges Perec, just like this short film schedule, decided to focus on the poetics of the spaces that surround us. Architecture and urbanism allow us to reconsider the places we live and the link between personal trajectory, intimate and spaces. Movies, tell the city with a documentary look, history, romantic, political or even alternative.
Has contemporary short films, as for example, Gagarin (2015), adapted in full-length for cinema this year and the The smallest apartment in Paris (2014), with increasingly prominent actors in France. Here the public will be able to watch films by more classic directors, such as The school of postmen (1947), by the famous director Jacques Tati or Love exists (1961), by Maurice Pialat. To deal with equity, the movie Private correspondence in a public place from Jeanne Labrune (1988) brings together architectural heritage and love story to perfection. for this program, there are also two films by Sami Lorentz and Audrey Espinasse, beautiful testimonies from the Parisian suburbs. They will travel from Paris to Aix-en-Provence, with director Pierre Coulibeuf who is also now exhibited at Instituto Tomie Ohtake, in São Paulo. In addition, the show highlights the dissemination of the work of eight female directors and reflects the diversity in the types of films: documentaries, fictions and animation. Architecture and urbanism, are the base scenarios of many subjects, and the public will be able to discover love stories, of everyday life, of learning; and the construction of itself merges with the construction of the buildings.
