Interview

Fabiana, tell us a little about yourself ...

I am an Italian artist born in Turin and I live in my professional city, working with the automotive sector in a family business for over 46 years founded by my father.

I studied at “R. Cottini”, my hobby after school was to follow art independently, always working with my family in our business! I always put myself on the line, creating and never forgetting that art is important to me.

Fabiana Macaluso é Artista Plástica.
Fabiana Macaluso is Plastic Artist.

In 2014 I created a social art workshop in an association in my city that I very kindly made available, I created an art classroom open to everyone for free, anyone could participate once a week for 5 hours.

The situation of uncertainties caused serious problems and in December 2020 the laboratory closed due to the economic crisis.

I never gave up and at the beginning of the year I started a non-profit project called Virtual Art Workshop Social Group keeping artists together through social media, creating the group's showcase on Instagram and Facebook page, where I sponsored activities every night of exhibitions and fairs that I try to organize with the help of other associations, galleries and museums.

The project works very well and the art of the artists present in the group is also spreading abroad. I also thank the Buana Lima gallery for giving us so many fantastic non-profit opportunities and we are happy to participate in the Buana Lima exhibitions in Brazil, in Rio de Janeiro!

When she awoke her desire to be an artist?

I studied sculpture and also painting, and I like it a lot!

What kind of art do you like best?

Art is all beautiful and I am always discovering new techniques and my passion is also an innovative art.

During this period, I really like the art of recycling plastic material, even other materials that are difficult to dispose of, like cigarette butts!

How he developed his style (techniques)?

My techniques developed during high school, but the style came into being 2020 while i was traveling with my family, I fell in love with the tropical world, I was in Bora Bora and inside me the passion for tropical light was born.

I have given rise to many works dedicated to indigenous peoples and everything that represents the tribal, looking for the indigenous peoples that still exist!

Cite if you had artistic influences in your works and which artists?

The biggest influence was born as I said in Polynesia, but a big influence on me was born in Africa on my trip to Kenya. From there I realized that I would do art to help two villages I visited, in order to help them with the profits from my art.

A few years ago, I have helped these 2 villages for those who need a malaria vaccine and food packages, but finally in January 2021 the greatest work was born, the first well of drinking water in the keresha village of Malindi. I am happy to have finished one of the first wells I intend to build for them.

Do you have a family member or acquaintance who is an artist?

Not, nobody in my family and I am the only artist!!!

So, I have many colleagues and some also working with fine arts… is used a lot in contemporary art.

Living from art is possible?

I think you can't live on art alone, but art can help, should not be seen as a monetary gain, but it must be done because you always love her in the hope that some people will fall in love with her and maybe buy some works.

I think it's useless to delude yourself into going global like Bansky, this great ability to be noticed can happen with few, but you must always have a person behind you, who can take care of artist.

Ever thought about not acting with more art? can comment why?

Not, I never thought about it because I was born to make art, it's in my DNA!

No one will take me away from art because it's my world!!!

What skills are needed today for the artist?

The necessary skills are to study fine arts and, then, choose which material to use.

What do you feel when you create or appreciate a work of art?

I feel alive and I feel transported to my dimension of my cosmos!

Your inspirations to create a work of art?

There should always be inspiration for creative work, it's very easy to copy by downloading photos from Google. I consider myself an artist who creates her work from scratch!

Which art has impressed you the most so far?

I love sculpture and I love canvas, but… painting is also my passion and given my style, the one I love most is the rebel artist Gauguin looking for a new artistic world!

You must always be creating or creating only at certain times?

I only create when I have my spark, my inspiration, there's always a reason for everything… i repeat, it's easy to copy from a photo, my works are the faces of scenes and moments that I immortalize on the screen!

The product of your work is unique or has a close or distant relationship to your previous work?

My works are different from each other, always resuming the story that tormented me at that time in my life. I want to tell life scenes and real events!

What are the challenges of art / artist in the current scenario?

In art there is no challenge because it is eternal, our works are world heritage!

Social networks have helped you to spread your work?

Sign up to receive Event News
and the Universe of Arts first!

Yes, very, but you also need to be personal and be treated by good gallery owners! Or manager.

How plastic arts can contribute to education and culture?

Everything can be taken into account just to help the planet from environmental disasters!

If art can contribute, I'm glad…

How you analyze the qualities of a work of art?

I don't analyze art, shouldn't be judged, but it happens and many critics who criticize art may not even do it because they don't know what it means to be an artist!

It would be good for any art critic to go to an art school first to practice and really understand what it means to create!

What are the criteria for stipulating the value of a work of art?

There is no criterion, there is no logic, there is no forecast, or you reach people's hearts or you will never even have a monetary value!

Talk about your projects today ...

I Have 2 very important projects for me, first my art project in the nonprofit world with my group of 45 artists, for now that follow the Social Virtual Art Workshop Group and, then, my project “Art and life” in Africa helping the weakest with the profits of my art!

What's your advice for those just starting out?

Believing in what they do to value colleagues and, at the same time, learn from them that they have a lot of solidarity and purity in their soul and that we must face this sector with a lot of philosophy and mind.

If you want to leave a message ...

My universal message is that… art will save the world!!!

About your exhibitions, have any comments regarding, feelings…

My work was born out of a deep feeling, just look, you don't need to write!!!

Could you comment on some artistic curiosity?

My curiosities are many lately, I am also a writer and I also like street art and sometimes I work with my colleagues in writing!

How would you define your art in one line?

The activist artist of the Colors and Sorrows of the World!
