Accessible content is providing, and expanding, the possibilities of communication and interface of blind people, low vision, deaf and deafened in exhibition “Multiple Looks: women artists in the FUNARJ collections” on display until the day 20/3, at the Museum of the Ingá, in Niterói. These resources use QR Codes associated with Spotify platforms (with audio description) e YouTube (in pounds).
According to the project consultant Accessible Communication Resources, Thyago Correa, the methodological proposal for the production of accessible materials was guided by the technical visit. This step was carried out by the team of experts and consultants with disabilities, blind and deaf people, as well as people without disabilities, to investigate, try, discover and enjoy the exhibition, to then list the contents developed by the group based on the specificities of these audiences.
The project is based on the Brazilian Law of Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities (Statute of Persons with Disabilities) of Law no 13.146, from 6 th July 2015, that from Chapter IX – THE RIGHT TO CULTURE, TO SPORT, TO TOURISM AND LEISURE, no Art. 42, in your item I, ensures access to cultural goods in accessible formats. The initiative is also in line with the concept of the social model of disability in which the master in education Ingrid Augustin (of publication “Disability models and their implications for inclusive education”; 2012) addresses the understanding that issues and situations considered problematic, experienced by people with disabilities in society, are not in people or their disability, but that disability takes on a social dimension that leads to exclusion.
Audience Deaf People
The contents prepared for deaf and/or deafened people were recorded in Brazilian Sign Language (Pounds), in video format, with subtitling and voice version. The material is available on FUNARJ's YouTube channel and social networks, as well as in the exhibition itself, through a sign with the Libras pictogram and the QR Code, next to the objects related to the contents, for the public to access on their own phone device.
Audience People Blind and or with Low Vision
Content designed for people who are blind and or have low vision, are offered with audio description, in audio format, available on FUNARJ's Spotify platform, for public access through social networks, as well as in the exhibition itself, through a sign with the Audio Description pictogram and the QR Code, next to the objects related to the contents, for the public to access on their own phone device.
tactile replicas
Another feature offered are tactile replicas of two works selected to serve blind and low vision people.. The tactile replicas are positioned close to the works “Petrópolis”, de Sonia Harumi Ota, and “Abstract composition”, by Lyria Palombini. The two replicas were developed by journalist Ana Paula Campos, from the FUNARJ team, and by designer and professor Ildo Nascimento and allow sensory exploration through different shapes and textures.
The exhibition “Multiple Looks: women artists in the FUNARJ collections” brings together 150 works by a hundred women artists featured in the collections of FUNARJ spaces – in addition to Ingá, including the Banerj Collection, the Antonio Parreiras Museum, the House of the Marquesa de Santos, the Carmen Miranda Museum and the Laura Alvim Culture House –, hailing from various parts of Brazil and selected for their historical contributions to Brazilian art. The exhibition can be visited from Wednesday to Saturday, 12h to 17h, and admission is free.
