The Missão Artística Francesa: National Museum of Fine Arts collection will be the theme discussed in the last Lecture of the year of the project “MNBA: Open for Construction" this Thursday, day 09 of december, taught by educator Rossano Antenuzzi.
The focus is to present the collection of the members of the French Artistic Mission that arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 1816, headed by Joaquim Lebreton, a renowned French intellectual, I was invited by count of Barca (then minister of the Portuguese Court) to head the Mission.
Aiming to implement official artistic education in the country, on board came names like Jean Baptiste Debret, Nicolas Antoine Taunay, Grandjean de Montigny and Zéphirin Ferrez, among others.
